Construction and a Carnival :-)

First off I would like to thank everyone again for all of your prayers!! I’m on the final stretch of my mission trip and would just like to fill y’all in on what I have been up to and what I will be doing for the next three weeks. 2 weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with 2 teams that came down from Connecticut and Georgia. We did construction work all day, which consisted clearing the debris (which there was a TON of) out of an alley way and preparing a wall to be painted and painting that wall white. The hope for the wall is that next time the teams come down they will be able to paint a mural. Working with this team was a huge joy! It was really neat to see people come together, from all over the country, to help out the community of Shaw for Christ. One of the people that I got to meet during this week was a 13 year old boy named A.J. The neat thing about AJ was that he wasn’t a part of any of the teams. AJ is from Shaw and saw us all working and decided to help us out. AJ was usually the first one there and was an extremely hard worker. It was amazing to see a kid who took out 5 days of his summer to help out his community (we normally worked from around 9 – 4 or 5). Please be keeping AJ in your prayers! On the fourth day of that week we held a community carnival. I was put to work at the face painting booth. It was a crazy experience! There was never a dull moment at the face painting booth and I found out that I can paint faces to look like Spider Man and the Green Hulk!! It was great to see the community of Shaw coming together! This last past week I spent time at the Mid-Delta Association office preparing for the VBS’s that I will be doing in the next few weeks. Thank you all for your prayers!!

On Kamber’s blog she mentioned words/phrases that she has learned in New Orleans so I thought I shared those I’ve learned and heard but just haven’t found out what it means hahaJ.

Cutting up = misbehaving, goofing off, horsing around (First time I heard this I was so confused my though process literally was “What?? That child isn’t even near a pair of scissors!?!?!)

Phlittering around - . . .  . . I just heard this one yesterday . . . translation please???

I’ve gotta use it = I have to go use the restroom/bathroom

Catching Up

I've been in the Mississippi Delta for around 3 weeks now and am just now starting another blog entry. Sorry guys!! I'll try to catch y'all up as best I can. My first week consisted of teaching 1st and 2nd grade at a Vacation Bible School in Indianola, Mississippi. I normally had around 12 kids each day in my classroom. My 2nd week was spent helping at Delta Missions's Leadership Camp and getting ready for 2 VBS for the following week. Which catches us up to this week :-). I am doing a VBS in Shaw in the morning and then a VBS in Inverness in the afternoon. The VBS at Inverness just finished up this afternoon with 2 children accepting Christ!! It was an exciting moment :-) Hopefully with my next blogs I'll be able to give y'all more details but for now I just wanted to briefly catch y'all up on what has been going on! If you have any questions let me know :-) Thank you all for the prayers!! :-)

Creature of Habit

I think the last "blog" I had was when I was in junior high. Its purpose was just an online journal and I highly doubt anyone read it as to this was before the dawn of Facebook. So please bear with me as this is my first actual blog. This summer. . . in just 2 days. . . I will be in Mississippi as a summer missionary. I will try to keep y'all updated with what I am doing and any new prayer requests via this blog. If y'all haven't seen a new entry after a while let me know!! :-)  I've always been a creature of habit. My family always sits 2 pews back from the piano at church and I've always ordered the kids cheeseburger from Fuddruckers. It's safe to say I don't do change. So last summer when God started calling me to be a summer missionary I was really unsure of what to do. I remember praying that if this was really what God wanted me to do that he would hit me with a spiritual 2 by 4 and make it really obvious that this was what he wanted me to do. Needless to say he did just that. He provided great friends who had done summer missions that summer that helped me to figure out how to apply for summer missions. He also sent sermons and verses my way to confirm that this was what he wanted me to do with my summer or hit me with a "Spiritual 2 by 4". Thank you all so much for your prayers as I embark on this new experience. I will leave for Mississippi this Wednesday and will be back in Winslow on July 29th. For news on the other three summer missionaries from First Baptist Winslow: Kamber Maine, Kayla Maine, and Josh Cirre, go to the First Baptist Winslow Missionaries Facebook page.
